Mazda has the most curious story of all the car manufacturers. Its story began from the… cork. In 1920, Jujiro Matsuda established the company, which was producing the cork tree building materials. Seven years later, the company changed its name to Toyo Kogyo Ltd., which clearly showed it as moving to the industrial production.
Motorcycles in 1920th, machine tools in 1929th, and – finally – the first Mazda cars (small 3-wheeled Japanese trunks) in 1931st. Only then, the name of Mazda was officially recognized: it meant an ancient god of light, besides, it reminded everyone of the company’s owner – Matsuda. Now, Mazda exports its cars to 120 countries.
