They did the right thing, this Marlboro was like excess there. Scuderia Ferrari sounds good, anyway. And they don’t have to promote the tobacco.

From the safety point of view, the plastic is more preferable. It breaks where necessary, and often it’s more strong and light, than the metal.

“Ferrari” team renaming

“Ferrari” team renaming The “Formula 1” team – “Ferrari” – removed “Marlboro” part from its official name of the racing stables. As the famous British journalist Adam Cooper notes in his blog, since starting this weekend’s British Grand Prix, the full name of the Italian team will become the Scuderia Ferrari - instead of the previously used Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro.

According to Cooper, this decision is due to the toughening European laws which ban the tobacco advertising. Nevertheless, the team denied this hypothesis. “This is just our decision - said the representative of the Scuderia Ferrari. – We were always loyal to all the European and British laws.”

From the Silverstone stage, the Marlboro signs disappeared, losing their last point of the common notice during the Grand Prix. The presence of the Marlboro brand in “Formula 1” has been steadily decreasing since 2006, when the EU banned the cigarettes advertising. In the first months after the law came into force, the tobacco logos on the Scuderia Ferrari appeared only at the intro stages, and later it was changed to the bar code image shaped as a Marlboro pack.

In May 2010, because of the threat of criminal prosecution, the Italian team removed the bar code images. After that, no element of the car could be interpreted as tobacco advertising. In mid-June 2011 the team, though, has continued the sponsorship contract with Marlboro until the end of 2015
